Bringing home a rescue dog is an exciting and rewarding experience, but preparation is key to ensuring a smooth transition. Before your new furry family member arrives, here are the essentials you’ll need:
- Food & Bowls
Choose a high-quality dog food suitable for your dog’s age and dietary needs. You’ll also need stainless steel or ceramic food and water bowls for easy cleaning and durability.
- Comfortable Bedding & Crate
Provide a soft, washable bed where your dog can feel safe and secure.
- Leash & Collars (Provided by SOSD)
If you’re adopting from SOSD, we’ll provide:
✅ A leash for safe walks
✅ A martingale collar (prevents slipping out during walks)
✅ A buckle collar (to attach a name tag and tracker)
✅ A tracker for extra security in case your dog gets lost
- Name Tag
Even with a tracker, an engraved name tag with your contact details is essential.
- Toys & Chews
Interactive toys like KONGs, puzzle feeders, and chew toys help keep your dog mentally stimulated and reduce anxiety, especially in a new environment.
- Potty Training Essentials
If your dog is not fully housetrained, stock up on pee pads, enzymatic cleaners, and poop bags for a smooth potty training process.
- Grooming Supplies
A dog-friendly shampoo, ear cleaner and wet wipes are essential for regular grooming and maintaining your dog’s hygiene.
- Safety Gates & Dog-Proofing Supplies
To prevent accidents, consider baby gates, playpens, or pet-proofing your home by securing wires, toxic plants, and breakable items.
By preparing in advance, you’ll help your rescue dog feel comfortable and safe in their new home. If you have any questions, our team at SOSD is happy to guide you through the adoption process. Welcome to the rewarding journey of pet parenthood! ????❤️
