Key People
May Ngu
President
“Since joining SOSD in 2018 as a fosterer, I’ve been continually inspired by the passion and dedication of everyone in this community. Their unwavering commitment to animals strengthens my own—to care for the dogs entrusted to us, speak for the voiceless, and advocate for stronger welfare standards and greater accountability across society.
This work is never done alone. It depends on donors, volunteers, staff, fellow welfare groups, the public, and authorities working together. United in purpose, we can create real change for rescued animals and for a more compassionate Singapore. It is an honour to stand alongside this community in this mission.”
Lee Jia Xin
Secretary
“My journey with dogs began in 2020 when I adopted my first dog, Morgan, from SOSD just before the COVID pandemic. As a first-time dog owner, Morgan was truly a dream—patient, gentle, and loving.
I later volunteered with SOSD as a fosterer and rehomer, finding unique joy in seeing timid or withdrawn dogs blossom into playful, curious companions in loving homes. Witnessing the dedication of the volunteers and staff inspired me to take on the role of Secretary. I’m excited to work alongside everyone to make a meaningful difference in the lives of these dogs”
Phang XinYi
Treasurer
“Starting as a dog walker volunteer, I gradually became involved in rehoming and fostering when I realized making a difference in the dogs’ lives gave me rejuvenated purpose. Recognizing my finance background and expertise, I willingly assumed the thankless role of treasurer, a crucial position for the organisation. The alignment of my financial skills with my deep love for animals made this role a perfect union of my passions.”
Kieran Kua
Head of Operations
“The greatest reward in this work is when a feral dog eats in our presence for the first time; wags it’s tail at the sight of us for the first time; allows us to pat it for the first time; goes for a walk outside for the first time; finds a forever home, a loving family for the last time.
It’s a long journey for each and everyone that comes through our shelter, but the joy that each one brings us at every milestone is immeasurable. That’s what keeps me going through the years, especially when the going gets tough.”
What we Do
Advocacy & Education
SOSD advocates for humane stray management, responsible pet ownership, and compassion for all dogs. We educate the public, oppose abuse, and promote understanding of mongrels as loyal, intelligent, and adoptable companions.
Rescue & Rehoming
SOSD rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes stray dogs despite limited resources and high costs. Each adoption is carefully screened to ensure lifelong, loving homes for our rescued dogs.
TNRM
SOSD supports sterilization as a humane way to manage strays. Through TNRM and collaboration with agencies, we monitor, care for, and responsibly manage community dogs to reduce conflict and overpopulation.
Animal Assisted Activities

Healing Paws
Launched in January 2014, Healing Paws is a programme that brings comfort and companionship to various communities through Animal-Assisted Activities (AAA). Volunteers and their dogs visit children’s homes, elderly homes, and hospices, providing much-needed emotional support and motivation.

Canine Chums
Canine Chums is a programme for tertiary schools that promotes adoption, responsible pet ownership, and acceptance of Singapore Specials. Through meaningful interactions with our rescue dogs, we aim to not only educate, but also bring joy to students, helping them relieve stress and brighten their day.
