SOSD is looking for a compassionate and dependable Shelter Care Staff member to join our team for a one-year contract. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on animal care and wants to make a meaningful impact in the lives of rescued dogs.
As part of our shelter team, you will help ensure our dogs receive the daily care, enrichment, and support they need while they await their forever homes.

- Full-time, 1-Year Contract
Key Responsibilities:
- Clean and wash dog kennels to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
- Walk dogs alongside volunteers, ensuring they receive regular exercise and enrichment.
- Assist with basic medical care, including applying topical medications, administering eye drops, and cleaning wounds under guidance.
- Spend dedicated time with dogs that are learning to trust and socialize with people.
- Provide administrative support as required.
- Assist in bringing dogs to veterinary appointments when needed.
- Support veterinary house calls at the shelter.
- Carry out other shelter-related duties as reasonably assigned.
We're Looking For Someone Who:
- Has a genuine love for dogs and animal welfare.
- Is comfortable working in a physically active, hands-on environment.
- Is patient, responsible, and able to remain calm around dogs with different temperaments.
- Is willing to learn and follow animal handling and care protocols.
- Can work independently as well as collaboratively with staff and volunteers.
- Has basic computer skills for administrative tasks.
- A valid driving licence is an advantage but not essential.
